Redecorating ideas have been floating in my mind, so when “Decorate” came in for review, I grabbed it. I’m ready to make some changes in our home. At first, when I browsed the book, I was very motivated just by looking at the wonderful photographs. I’m a visual person so looking at ideas and designs resonated with me.
The book is divided into sections:
Section 1: Space Matters – this section covers everything you need to know about space and how to use it.
Section 2: Setting Your Style – this section covers things like feeling, different types of style (floral, simple, natural, etc.)
Section 3: Room by Room – this section covers each of the rooms in the home, from kitchens (urban, cook’s, sociable,) living spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms, children’s/boy’s/girl’s rooms, and home office.
Section 4: Attention to Detail – this area covers the finishing touches: mirrors, lighting, pillows, flowers, and table settings.
My specific interest is to redo our bedroom and “Decorate” certainly gave me ideas to work with. I was pleased to find that I could still use some of the furniture but rearrange it and add new coverings and other finishing touches. I liked the section on flea market finds and how to incorporate them into the decor of the room. I also liked the fact that most of the ideas in this book are simple yet elegant, inexpensive yet look rich, and the combinations of items work well together.
For me, “Decorate” by Holly Becker and Joanna Copestick is exactly what I needed to inspire me to redecorate. I was using the excuse of not having the time but after perusing this book, I realize that it’s not going to take much time at all with directed organization.
Do I recommend “Decorate?” You bet I do! It is chock-full of inspiring ideas.
