“Saving Grace: A Story of Adoption” by LB Johnson is the author’s memoir, her journey from the day she was adopted to now. LB was born to an unwed mother of the generation prior to Roe v. Wade, when the only safe option was adoption. LB is adopted into a loving home with another child, a boy who would become her brother. When LB finds herself pregnant as a teen/college student, the option seems obvious, but the only decision she could make is to pray for a family to give her child to, and walk away. “Saving Grace” is a heartfelt look into what it means to be family and the tough decisions that must be made in the name of love.

The story is written in short, simple vignettes crafted from notes the author made in a journal to her own daughter. Indeed, it feels like you are reading entries in a secret diary. Each wonderful story, takes a look inside the heart and soul of the author, as it is carefully penned with love, faith and hope.

The writing is fantastic.  Johnson truly captures her audience with her storytelling ability. The subject matter alone was enough to glue me to my seat until I finished the entire book, but add to that the author’s magical way with words, and it was all over but the crying (I did plenty of that as well.) The characters are captivating and unforgettable and this story will certainly remain in my thoughts for some time.

I highly recommend “Saving Grace: A Story of Adoption” by LB Johnson as a clearly notable memoir that will gently place an imprint on your heart. Most certainly, it will inspire a need for reflection and gratitude upon your own life, and the choices made along the way.
