I enjoy having homemade fresh dips and salsas to snack on at home and work. I also like to bring them to potlucks because they can be used as appetizers or meal enhancers. Buying store bought dips and salsas tend to be very high in salt and not as appealing. “150 Best Dips & Salsas” by Judith Finlayson and Jordan Wagman offers a wonderful collection of recipes that has something in it for everyone including vegetarians and vegans. The recipes include those made with vegetables, dairy, fish, meat, fruit and beans. There are also some used for desserts. Recipes are also included for making dippers, like chips, flatbreads and crostinis.
Interspersed in the pages are some incredibly delicious looking pictures of some of the dishes. Bright and colorful, they motivate me to want to eat more homemade food and skip the processed, packaged stuff. The recipes include two forms of measurements, making the book an easy choice for gift giving to someone outside of the United States who might be using the metric system. There are also tips to accompany each dish. The authors also offer recommendations on what to use as dippers. Some background information is given on the more unusual recipes such as Arepas from South America.
“150 Best Dips & Salsas” by Judith Finlayson and Jordan Wagman is a cookbook that can be used year round because some of the recipes are warm, such as the Warm Eggplant Salad, and others are cool and fruity such as the Mango Dip. I found my appetite stimulated as I looked through each section! I highly recommend this delicious cookbook.
