“Dark Lands: Requiem,” by Lyn I. Kelly is the first book in the Dark Lands Chronology, and the debut novel by the author. The story opens with young Webb Thompson lying sprawled out on the ground, and is suddenly overcome with an urgent jolt of panic. The panic overtakes him and he awakens, disoriented, and in a strange land. He yells for Sundown, his little sister, and finds her unconscious. Where are they and how did they get there? Webb and Sundown soon find out they are in the Dark Lands, a realm between life and death in which good vs. evil battle for control. The pair is quickly thrown into the midst of activities in the Dark Lands as they discover supernatural abilities deep within themselves. The force of evil is growing stronger than ever in the Dark Lands under the leadership of the Dark Man. The Dark Man and his efforts threaten to destroy the entire universe, and Webb and Sundown will need to perfect their newfound abilities quickly to join in the battle against time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a quick read, full of action-packed magical adventures, and all the elements of a great fantasy novel. The writing is fresh, and the characters engaging. The artful presentation of the Dark Lands fantasy world kept me engrossed, and the unique elements of the land inspired anticipation of what was going to happen next.

I recommend “Dark Lands: Requiem” by Lyn I. Kelley to all fantasy enthusiasts. While the young adult crowd may connect to the protagonists on a different level, the storyline and writing will entice and appeal to all ages! I am looking forward to the next book in the series!
