In the powerful memoir “Unearthing Venus,” Cate Montana takes us on a journey through important stages of her life to show how she evolved into a spiritual being. Beginning in her childhood, we see how her upbringing affected decisions that she made into young adulthood. Her relationship with her mother and her stepfather had a huge impact on these early years. Her career choices led her into a male dominated field. This caused an imbalance between her masculine and feminine sides. This also led to unsatisfying and dysfunctional relationships.
As Cate was lead to a more spiritual path, her experiences started to change. She fell into some incredible opportunities that allowed her to step outside the mundane world and find a connection between her inner spiritual self and nature. This included spending three years in a primitive cabin with just her pets for company. Her career path also changed. Having been raised in an upper-middle-class environment, Cate simplified her life and minimalized her possessions down to those items really necessary or that held a deeper meaning for her.
As time passed, she moved across the United States and began to travel to spiritually connected sites in the United States, Central and South America and India. Her opportunities for growth and learning were incredible. Each journey drew more and more feminine energy into her being. Whether the events that she experienced were terrifying or beautiful, they all helped the evolution of her spiritual self.
“Unearthing Venus” definitely left a special mark on my soul. I learned so much from Cate Montana’s experiences. I appreciate how she became wiser and stronger as she aged. It reminded me that it wasn’t too late for me to get back on my own spiritual journey. Cate’s willingness to go ahead and do what she wanted to do also offered me a great lesson. The universe always managed to come through for her. This included providing her with financial means when it didn’t appear that she had any. She never let fear hold her back. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read, “Unearthing Venus,” because I know that it came to me at the perfect time in my life and it will have a huge influence on the choices I make for my future.
