“The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty” by Sunny Subramanian and Chrystle Fiedler offers 100% cruelty free recipes for creating make up, skin and hair care products. This book will appeal to women of all ages because it offers recipes for everything beauty related. I am really impressed with the variety of products offered. Instead of a bunch of recipes for the same old stuff like lip gloss or bath bombs, this book covers recipes for body products that will work on you from head to toe, including homemade mascara! I look forward to trying many of the hygiene products such as deodorant, toothpaste and mouthwash.
Many of these recipes would also make really nice gifts. The photographs of the products present them as being able to be packaged so that they will also make a great gift or look nice on display in your own bathroom. I love that the authors provide a lot of tips alongside their recipes. They will let you know what the product is best for, what additional health benefits can come from the “Superstar Ingredient,” and the top tips so that you know what to look for as you create, and you avoid making mistakes.
I appreciate that this is a guide for vegans, however, I think that this information will be enjoyed by everyone who has an interest in creating their own beauty products and I really hope that it will give an awareness to non-vegans so that they will start considering what kinds of unnatural, unhealthy, and cruel ingredients might be in the products that are so easily purchased in the store. A lot of the ingredients will be able to be found at the market, however, for the more unusual ones, such as frankincense oil, I have been able to locate them on Amazon. Everything seems to be readily available and grown organically. What wonderful gifts I can make for myself and for my friends and family.
I highly recommend getting “The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty” by Sunny Subramanian and Chrystle Fiedler. If you are not a do-it-yourself kind of person, then I would recommend getting it for a friend with those talents, and marking the recipes that you like with a sticky tab!
