Author Jim Taylor, a minister in the Church of Christ, wrote, “LEVITICUS UNVEILED AND REVEALED” to assist those of us who, in the past may have had difficulty understanding the Book of Leviticus. His hope is to help readers understand how to live holy in daily life and worship. He does an excellent job of describing the five offerings of worship: burnt, grain, peace, sin, and guilt. The last two offerings require us to address sin through atonement and forgiveness.

“When we walk in faith and love we are seen by God as keeping his law flawlessly, even though we know we sin and have blemishes.” (1 John 1:5–7)

We all commit sin, yet some of us tend to ignore the seriousness of some of those mistakes. One of the biggest flaws I see is the one that impacts love thy neighbor.

“Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loveth his neighbor hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: love therefore is the fulfilment of the law.” (Romans 13:8-10)

We see on the news all the time occurrences of murder, rape, home invasions and adulterous affairs. It seems to me based on my reading that these events are in direct contrast to following God’s plan for holy living. What God wanted from his children from the very beginning was faith, love, devotion, and obedience. The Levitical sacrificial system came first to allow God to show his children what constitutes sin and its deadly consequences. Taylor does an excellent job of explaining how important moral, physical and spiritual living is and uses Leviticus as a guidebook for all.

I did find some of the reading tedious to work through, but I now have a better understanding of what I must do to live a better life and have a closer connection to God. Readers will find this explanation of Leviticus easier to understand with the authors straightforward writing. I suggest taking in the reading little by little in order to better absorb the information.

I highly recommend “LEVITICUS UNVEILED AND REVEALED” by Jim Taylor for all who want to gain some excellent insight on the five offerings, the meaning of sin, and how to seek forgiveness.
