“The Fog Ladies” by Susan McCormick is a cozy mystery read that kept me entertained. In the story we meet the Fog Ladies, a group of elderly ladies living in an apartment building in San Francisco. Sarah, a young doctor, and resident of the same building gets pulled into this crazy group of old ladies and their antics. When Muriel Bridge, resident grumpy Fog Lady, dies a terrible death after falling off of her stool trying to clear bugs out of her light fixture. the Fog Ladies are not all convinced that her death was an accident. Little by little they start to investigate and come closer to the truth and when other members of “The Fog Ladies” begin having “accidents” as well an investigation ensues. And that’s when trouble starts.

Susan McCormick did a great job of developing the story and the characters. I loved the backstory of all of the characters and felt they were very well thought out.  “The Fog Ladies” was a delightful read but I feel like it could have been shortened or sped up a bit. The story seems to drag a bit in the middle, but overall, it kept me guessing until the very end. I do wish that we would have gotten more information about Bessie, Mr. Glen, and that intriguing diary that he kept.

It is hard for me to pick a favorite part of this book because I enjoyed most of it, but I believe I most enjoyed seeing how the story wrapped up. I love a good mystery and this one definitely stumped me when it came to the bad guy.

I feel “The Fog Ladies” by Susan McCormick is very tame and could be read by teens, young adults, and senior citizens alike. This was a very refreshing read with no harsh language or situations, but there are some small triggers for at risk-youth and a mention of domestic violence. I am a little past my twenties and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to have my own group of senior ladies to meet with like Sarah does. I could really use the Fog Ladies advice and of course baked goods!
