In Ms. Fry’s “Oh! Olivia” we meet two unforgettable characters right off the bat: investigative reporter Parker Campbell, and her therapy cat, Olivia. Parker learns of a location where feral cats live and where items are beginning to turn up from people who disappeared out of thin air seven years ago. People are curious as to why these items are showing up after all this time. Could this be a mass grave of some sort? Are the victims connected in some way?
When the feral community of cats started turning up items of these “missing” people, I didn’t know what to think of the situation. Why, all of a sudden, are their belongings coming to the surface among a bunch of felines? But I have to say I loved how Parker and her sweet, intelligent cat, Olivia, led me through the tale and tried to find answers to this crazy mystery. I honestly kept on guessing exactly what could have happened as I progressed through the story. If you are a cat lover, I think you will really enjoy Olivia’s presence, along with the author’s other popular characters, Savannah and Rags, who appear in other books.
I really enjoyed reading Ms. Fry’s book. This was the first story I have read from this particular author, but after a little research, I found out the characters, Savannah and Rags, were from another, completely different cat mystery series that the author pens. This new series, however, revolves around Parker and Olivia and it is fun, engrossing, and highly entertaining.
As for the ending, I have to be honest and say it was a bit abrupt for my taste. The author left the story on a major cliffhanger, with some things still left unanswered. This is Book 1 of 4, of course, so I’m sure that was planned. I’m just hoping Book 2 will pick up exactly where this one left off. Thankfully, while during my research, I also found out from other readers’ comments that Ms. Fry writes and publishes her books fairly quickly, so Books 2 through 4 are out already, meaning I don’t have to wait! (Yay!)
I feel this book would best fit readers who are older teens and adults, and would be an especially perfect fit for any and all readers who love cozy and/or cat mysteries. Overall, this was an easy, memorable tale to get lost in for a few hours.
