“The Trump Diaries 2024,” is the fourth book in the Oh Daddy Chronicles series by author Barry Robbins.
The diary was found in the ashes after Mar Lago burned down and The Donald disappeared. Taking place in the future, it contains over eighty satirical diary entries that cover from January 1, 2024, to November 1, 2024. It is mostly written by a woke translator who is also referred to as “The Chronicler-in-Chief.” He translates Trump’s writings into a more easily readable format. The Donald had to cover for him on a couple of days where he had to miss work due to illness. Much has changed between now and these events in the future. Melania and Ivanka have left to pursue an alternative lifestyle. Melania is also the head housekeeper for Pelosi. Little Barron Trump never makes an appearance. Putin is doing time breaking rocks in prison. Pete Buttigieg makes a few appearances, as does DeSantis, Sanders, Conway, Thomas, and Psaki. Other entertaining topics covered include smoothies, box sixteen of the fifteen boxes of missing documents, plumbing issues at Mar a Lago, and Trump’s harmonic lessons.
Out of all the books that I’ve read in the Oh Daddy Chronicles satire series, this one is my favorite. While all have been well written, I enjoyed the diary format the most. Each day represents a funny episode in the life of a man who is well-known for creating drama. I enjoyed that all the representations of the other characters were equally entertaining, no matter which way they politically lean. Robbins selects their quirkiest qualities and incorporates them into these fictional entries. Speaking of leaning, one of my favorite entries was about Trump complaining about the Leaning Tower of Pisa leaning to the left. To entice him to move to Italy, it gets changed to lean to the right.
In addition to the journal entries, there are also three entertaining appendices included at the end of the book. Scholarly commentaries are made by famous people regarding Trump’s entries in Appendix I. Appendix II is composed of personal reactions by both beloved family members and political foes. Appendix III is titled “What Became of Them.” Readers get to see what happened to key characters that factored into the journal entries, after Mar Lago burns and Trump vanishes. These appendices add greatly to the story. They are just as entertaining as the rest of the material presented. While most readers might bypass the Appendix sections of non-fiction works, these are not to be missed!
I am impressed at the amount of work that went into crafting this satire. I appreciate the complexity involved with incorporating real-life characters and events into this work. The fictional characteristics are tied in well with real events that have actually taken place. Readers who enjoy political humor will relish “The Trump Diaries 2024!”
