In “Fireflies and Zeroes” Liz Larson weaves together the shimmering highs and lows of a childhood camaraderie, to deliver a factual and soul-rendering saga in the magnific metropolis of Charlottesville. Jason’s band, The Generation, also famously known as ‘the’ pop-punk obsession, has produced three albums that have taken the city of Charlottesville by storm. That is, however, until negative criticism begins to crop up throwing one of the band’s members, Max, into utmost silence. He is Jason’s childhood friend and the band’s mastermind songwriter, whose unusual behavior depicts someone who craves his own space.

It is on the eve of the band’s reunion tour after a one-year hiatus that Jason witnesses a horrific scene that sends cold chills down his spine. A body he’d been so convinced is Max’s has blood pooling on the bricks with a haunting glassy stare that he knows will burn into his memory forever. Max’s brother Allex has also been injured by a mystery assailant, attracting the attention of local police. Little does he know that looking into the supposed max’s body will introduce him to a very intricate engagement, that will have him look over his shoulder in unfathomable trepidation.

“Fireflies and Zeroes” creates a mysterious aura that surrounds each page. Liz Larson brings unsure events at a fast pace completely engrossing the reader. The book has twenty-two chapters and each of them is a new twist to the story. The author has perfected creating a chain of incidents that you will not be able to leave. I, as a reader, was not able to put it down because I wanted to know what happens next.

The book touches on almost every aspect of human life- devotion, zeal, faith, envy, and survival instincts. You name the emotion, and you’ll find it in “Fireflies and Zeroes.” The saga turns around multiple personalities and gives them equivalent room. The storyline is gorgeous, carefully planned, and written in a way that can be deemed perfect. It is unequivocally a relaxing and slow-burning read that will leave you yearning for more!
