“The Day Before Tomorrow” by Monique Britten is a poignant and beautifully layered tale that tells of a heartbreaking, traumatic aftermath, for a generation of youngsters whose strength is sapped mercilessly by an unforeseen torment.

The year is 1979 and Juliette has been served the most heartbreaking news. A chronic cancer has reproduced rapidly in her bones, leaving her with only nine months to live. Unexpectedly, she finds herself adoring her family with urgency as a sense of tearing down the middle into two parts starts to grow inside of her. On one side, a lady imprisoned in the restraints of an ailment, and on the other, a frantic, desperate woman with the nerve to resist an apparent reality.

On a different side, a young girl in her adolescent years has fallen for her math teacher’s irresistible charm. Their relationship quickly graduates into a romantic bond, owing to his attractive appearance, and ability to pay attention to her as she says things that she couldn’t easily let out to anyone else. As the author states,

Certainly not her parents, who have a blasé way of deflating conversations by interrupting her or switching the topic or sometimes pretending not to hear her at all.

Hers is a shocking saga, that will have your emotions set ablaze and patience tested, as horrifying details emerge.

Monique Britten has offered a tale that will cause a wave of anxiety to creep up your spine in a matter of minutes. A character who feels that her chance at freedom of thought and mind is fast sweeping under her, admirably makes open prayers for her family regarding their unity, love, and safety, just in case she comes to the worst. She is a believer that when everything else fails, love remains. Incredible phraseology and colorful descriptions depict nearly actual possibilities for present-day living and readers may find themselves wondering what they would do in the face of similarly distressing situations that may keep coming back.

“The Day Before Tomorrow” is a relevant, multifaceted, and impacting read, owing to the well-crafted characters, and satisfying finish that indicates the rewarding fruits of endurance and anticipation. The novel is entirely insightful, and readers will stay inspired to remain joyful, even after making blunders. By the end of the text, a query may arise in your mind – Just how well can you love others, fully?
